Mobile Engineer, Offline Sync
Own the offline-first data layer of the Gazi Wellness iOS and Android audit app, so auditors can complete a full store walk in walk-in coolers, basements and parking lots with no signal.
Our auditors work where the network is worst: walk-in freezers, locker rooms, equipment basements and rural highway stores. The app has to capture checklists, photos, voice notes, GPS and capture time on device, then sync cleanly hours later, sometimes after the same audit has been edited by a second auditor or reviewed by a supervisor.
Evidence integrity matters as much as speed. Franchisees and, occasionally, attorneys look at these audits, so the timestamp and location attached to each photo must be the ones recorded at capture and must survive sync unaltered. You will work with our Head of Security, Sameer Joshi, on how that evidence is sealed.
What you will do
- Own the local data store, sync queue and conflict resolution for audits, photos and corrective action items.
- Make photo upload resumable and bandwidth-aware for large walks of 150 or more images.
- Capture and protect capture-time metadata (GPS, device time, EXIF) and detect tampering or clock drift.
- Build test harnesses that simulate poor connectivity, app kills mid-sync and device clock changes.
- Work with product and field operations on the auditor experience: fast checklist entry, one-hand photo capture, clear sync status.
- Participate in on-call for mobile sync issues.
What you bring
- 4+ years building production mobile apps, with React Native or native iOS and Android experience.
- Hands-on experience with offline-first architecture: local databases (SQLite or similar), background sync, retry and conflict handling.
- Solid understanding of mobile file handling, background tasks and platform limits on iOS and Android.
- Experience writing automated tests for sync and data integrity.
Nice to have
- Experience with CRDTs or other merge strategies for collaborative editing.
- Familiarity with image metadata (EXIF) and location services.
- Experience with mobile device management (MDM) deployment for enterprise customers.
