A 140-studio boutique fitness network takes audits offline into locker rooms and equipment basements

A lead field auditor and six regional auditors replaced a web-form checklist that failed without signal. Offline capture now covers every zone, and locker room sanitation findings are photo-verified within 72 hours.

The challenge

The network's auditors used a browser-based form that needed a live connection. Many studios sit in strip-center basements or interior suites, and the locker rooms, laundry areas and equipment storage rooms had no usable cellular signal. Auditors wrote notes on paper in those zones and re-entered them later, often from memory.

As a result, the zones members complain about most, locker rooms, showers and equipment condition, were the ones with the weakest evidence. Equipment maintenance issues such as frayed cables or torn upholstery were noted but rarely tracked to a fix.

Franchisees also had no way to check their own studio against the brand standard before an auditor arrived, so the first time they saw a finding was in the report.

“Offline mode is the reason we bought it. I can walk the locker rooms and the equipment storage in the basement, take every photo, and it all syncs with the right timestamp and location when I get back to the front desk.”

The rollout

  1. March 2026Rebuilt the studio audit in the Brand Standards Engine across six zones: entrance and front desk, studio floor, equipment, locker rooms and showers, retail wall, and back of house. Equipment items were tied to the manufacturer maintenance intervals the brand already published to franchisees.
  2. April 2026Offline mode tested in 12 studios chosen for poor signal. Photos, voice notes and scores were captured in airplane mode and verified for GPS and capture time after sync.
  3. May 2026All seven auditors moved to the mobile app. Locker room and equipment findings were set to require a remediation photo before closure.
  4. July 2026Franchisee Self-Audit add-on enabled for studio managers, using the same rubric the auditors use.
